Service Technician Intern

DESCRIPTION

Our Service Technician Intern assists in all aspects of the maintenance of mechanical products and systems for the Turbomachinery industry. The intern is responsible for learning industry standards for maintaining and servicing advanced turbomachinery. The intern will assist senior service technicians to ensure all parts are up to engineering specifications before returning to operation. The intern will learn to exercise judgment with the use of defined practices in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining viable solutions.

  • Regular travel to assist engineers and senior technicians in the support of disassembly, diagnosis, corrective action, and reassembly of rotating equipment, including compressors, turbines, and turboexpanders.
  • This position allows for comprehensive on-the-job training that can be leveraged in a large range of mechanically-focused careers.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This Service Technician Intern position will work both with a team and at times individually to fulfill maintenance schedules that meet typical specifications for turbomachinery equipment.  The intern will create and maintain the necessary documentation that will ensure the design is built to proper specifications.  The intern will collaborate with engineers and company personnel to successfully fulfill the needs of the project.

  • Assist in all maintenance and service efforts: Overhauls, Receiving, Assembly, Disassembly, Test, Delivery
  • Assist in the assembly/disassembly of complex high precision machinery.
  • Evaluates mechanical systems by assisting engineers to conduct research studies; applying principles of mechanics, vibration, stress analysis and FEA, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
  • Develops mechanical designs by studying/understanding design requirements; Create engineering documentation and drawings with adequate, cost effective geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Help to develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
  • Works within industry and governmental standards and regulations for safety, relevant for the turbomachinery industry.
  • Learn Inspection/Quality Control Best Practices – Examine production parts for defects or deviations from engineering specifications with precision inspection equipment including, but not limited to: Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gauges, Depth Gauges, Telescoping Gauges and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) methods.
  • Help to create solutions to complex technical problems
  • Build and set up equipment
  • Assist in the creation of prototypes
  • Assist in creating build documentation
  • Reviews customer reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Utilize machining tools to modify and create parts.

 

Qualifications

Current or recent engineering student or industrial technology student with one or more of the following abilities:

  • Demonstrate clear communication & writing skills
  • Demonstrate application of engineering knowledge and skills
  • Must present proof of authorization to work in the United States

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Turbomachinery, Machine Design, Rotordynamics, Thermodynamics
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Technical knowledge with hands-on experience working on machinery including automotive.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
  • Results oriented.
  • Can multi-task and enjoys working on time-sensitive projects.
  • Must be upbeat and have a positive attitude
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Has or is able to obtain a U.S. Passport.
  • Additionally fluent in one of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, French or German.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be relatively fit and able to work in full protective equipment in very hot environments.
  • Lift heavy parts into and out of shelving and machining centers.
